Storage Reclamation

The FaxPress stores incoming and outgoing faxes, notices and transaction logs on the network file server. These files can become very large and can affect the amount of disk space the FaxPress has available to store new incoming and outgoing faxes. If the FaxPress encounters insufficient disk space it will suspend operations. Storing a large number of fax jobs can also result in a longer initialization time for the FaxPress.

To ensure that there is sufficient disk space on the network server, periodically purge the stored FaxPress faxes. The Storage Reclamation feature lets you delete received faxes, notices and transaction logs once they reach a certain age. You can reclaim space immediately, or configure the FaxPress to purge the files daily.

You can configure storage reclamation four ways:

1. By manually setting time and files to be purge,
2. By setting FaxPress to automatically cleanup all the files on the server at a specified time,
3. By enabling storage reclamation by the archive program (faxes will be archived in a database and purged as specified), or
4. By choosing to have no storage reclamation

The FaxPress suspends other operations while the database files are being purged. Consequently, you should run Storage Reclamation during off-peak hours.

The Purge old faxes and transaction logs section allows you to:

Use the Delete Fax/Notice older than option to have the FaxPress purge Fax and Notice files. Enter the number of days faxes and notices will be stored before being deleted.

Use the Delete Transaction Logs older than option to have the FaxPress purge outdated transaction log files. Enter the number of months transaction logs will be stored before being deleted. The number of months in this setting indicates Calendar Months. Thus, if you choose 1 month on the first day of a new month, all transaction logs from the previous calendar month will be deleted, and only the current day's transaction logs will be retained. For this reason, it is best to choose 2 or more months for this setting.

To run the purge program immediately, click the Clean up Now button. The Manual Storage Reclamation screen provides a list of mailboxes. Select a mailbox or mailboxes to clean up and click OK.

The Automatic Cleanup section allows you to set the FaxPress to automatically purge outdated faxes, notices and transaction logs:

Check Enable Automatic Clean up, select the Purge old faxes and transaction logs every day at radio button, and select a time.

The Use FaxPress Archive service configuration option is used to configure the FaxPress Archive service. The Archive program will take over storage reclamation of notices, logs, and faxes after the faxes have been archived. For more information on FaxPress Archive refer to Archiving Faxes.

The Auto Storage Reclamation feature and the FaxPress Archive program are mutually exclusive. Because Storage reclamation may delete the faxes before the archival program has a chance to archive the faxes, if the FaxPress server is configured for archival, Auto Storage Reclamation is turned off.

If you are using Single Sign On with a Novell network for user registration, you can activate Remove obsolete mailboxes. This will remove the users that no longer exist in the serial number or global groups on NDS. For more information on Single Sign On, refer to Creating User Accounts.
